Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek (HEUKING) ranks among Germany’s leading full-service law firms, with eight offices in Germany. The patent law team focuses on patent litigation and trade secret protection, with particular expertise in infringement proceedings and nullity appeals before the German Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof). HEUKING’s patent team is one of the few in a full-service firm to include patent attorneys alongside lawyers – a distinct advantage given the complex and time-sensitive nature of UPC proceedings.

Patent Litigation

With years of experience, our team has successfully defended and enforced patents across a wide range of industries before German national courts, the European Patent Office, the German Patent and Trademark Office, and the UPC. We combine deep technical knowledge with strategic legal acumen to navigate patent disputes and robustly protect our clients’ intellectual property rights. All team members actively handle cases before the UPC and national courts, demonstrating strong technical understanding and seamless integration into the legal framework.

Under Anton Horn’s leadership, HEUKING’s patent team has grown significantly in recent years. All lawyers hold certification as Specialist Lawyers in Intellectual Property Law (Fachanwälte für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz), and all team members have been registered UPC representatives since its inception in 2023.

HEUKING’s patent prosecution practice, established just a few years ago, is rapidly gaining recognition for its excellence and effectiveness. Our skilled patent attorneys and paralegals guide clients through the entire patent application process – from initial filing to final grant. HEUKING’s patent team supports clients in proceedings across Europe – we have been involved in cases in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands – as well as globally. The team works regularly in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Chinese. As a World Services Group (WSG) member, HEUKING maintains access to top-tier patent litigators worldwide, enabling effective management and coordination of international and cross-border proceedings. Particularly in France, Belgium, and Italy, there is a dedicated and well-coordinated team of UPC representatives that can respond quickly when needed.
