Sabine Dethof is a patent litigator and Salaried Partner at HEUKING, Düsseldorf. As a Certified Specialist Lawyer in Intellectual Property Law with nearly 20 years of professional experience, she advises and represents clients in technical complex patent disputes, particularly in mechanical engineering and in the automotive, semiconductor and medical devices sectors. Clients value her ability to quickly understand complex technologies and translate them into clear litigation strategies.

Besides the daily business of patent infringement proceedings, she is especially experienced in nullity proceedings before the Federal Patent Court. Furthermore, she achieved an oral hearing at the Enlarged Board of Appeal due to a Petition for Review according to article 112a EPC. For her international clients she also deals with subsequent enforcement and damages matters. As a UPC Representative Sabine has handled UPC proceedings before the Court of First Instance and the Court of Appeal.

Sabine is recognized for her patent litigation work by Handelsblatt/Best Lawyers, IAM Patent 1000 Professionals, Legal 500 and IP Stars which named her a Patent Star 2025.

Sabine has focused on intellectual property law since studying law in Göttingen and Salamanca, Spain. She obtained her doctorate from the University of Göttingen with a thesis on antitrust and telecommunications law, which already required a technical expertise. After her legal traineeship at the Higher Regional Court of Wuppertal she joined the HEUKING patent law team in 2007.

Sabine is a member of WSG (World Service Group), GRUR (German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) and VPP (Association of Intellectual Property Experts). For several years, she has also been part of the “Ladies at Patent Law”, the Düsseldorf network for experienced female patent litigators and judges, where practitioners exchange perspectives on patent litigation and UPC developments.
