Dr. Moritz Meckel practice focuses on patent litigation and appeals in Germany. He holds a Ph.D. in physics and is one of the few lawyers admitted in Germany as both an attorney at law and a German patent attorney.
His clients come from a wide range of technologies such as optics, materials science, medical devices, automotive, and mechanics.
Moritz’s experience covers all stages of the lifecycle and enforcement of patents in Germany, including appeals. This ranges from the drafting of patent applications to appeals in opposition or nullity proceedings, and from the analysis of products to the enforcement of final infringement rulings. Moritz often acts on patent and utility model disputes, including infringement, nullity, cancellation and opposition proceedings, and represents patentees as well as opponents / alleged infringers.
Moritz is admitted with all German district courts, higher regional courts, the Federal Patent Court, the Federal Court of Justice (in patent nullity matters) as well as the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) and the European Patent Office (EPO).
Before becoming an attorney, Moritz earned a Ph.D. in physics, working at the forefront of experimental research at the intersection between ultrafast quantum optics, molecular spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, solving hands-on issues relating to electronics, lasers, optics, vacuum technology as well as programming and large-scale data analysis.
