Taliens – France 2022

JUVE Comment

This well-positioned international IP boutique has a wealth of experience with telecoms and mechanics patents. Partner Jean-Frédéric Gaultier is renowned for telecoms litigation, for regular client ZTE among others. He has thus made a good name for himself in the field of FRAND, which new clients are relying on.

The firm also won over new clients for mechanical patent disputes. It litigated for Shimano in a patent dispute against competitor Bell involving bicycle helmets, which escalated shortly before the start of the Tour de France.

The team recently brought on board the highly experienced Grégoire Triet, who left national full-service firm Gide after 32 years having reached the partner age limit. Taliens thus expanded its comparatively small French team with a lawyer boasting ample experience in pharma proceedings, which the practice previously lacked.

Strengths

Litigation in telecommunications.

European set-up

Taliens is a Franco-German IP boutique with experience in pan-European FRAND litigation, for instance for ZTE. In Madrid, the firm works closely with the IP firm Baylos. With the hire of the highly experienced Grégoire Triet, the French team has now drawn level with the German team in terms of manpower. This is a sign that Taliens is looking to play a role in major suits at the UPC. So far it does not have its own presence in Italy or the UK, but this could be useful in pan-European cases.
