Schwarz Schönherr – Austria 2025
Rankings
JUVE Comment
This Vienna-based firm’s IP practice sits among the challengers to Austria’s market leaders in trademark and unfair competition law, steadily expanding its client base. The practice has evolved from primarily litigation work towards more strategic advisory services. The firm provides background counsel to numerous new domestic and international clients. While continuing to receive many referrals from Germany, the team is increasingly attracting Asian companies operating in the Austrian market. The practice is particularly sought after for emerging issues such as novel copyright matters and green claims.
Patent litigation now plays a diminished role at the firm. Following the departure of its most prominent partner, Thomas Adocker, to Taylor Wessing in April 2023, patent work has continued to decline. While the current team is not actively positioning itself for UPC proceedings, name partner Georg Schönherr brings extensive patent litigation experience and continues to represent long-standing clients in Viennese infringement proceedings, some of which form part of larger pan-European disputes.
