LOGEX hires legal counsel from Pinsent Masons in Amsterdam

Healthcare data company LOGEX has hired Maud de Haas as a legal counsel, following her time in private practice at both Pinsent Masons and Taylor Wessing. Working alongside the company's general counsel, de Haas will work in a strategic role which applies her pharmaceutical knowledge.

Maud de Haas has joined LOGEX as legal counsel, following two years in the patent team of Pinsent Masons in Amsterdam.

Maud de Haas (28) is now part of the LOGEX team in a legal counsel role, following a two-year stint at the Amsterdam office of Pinsent Masons. LOGEX, which is also situated in the Dutch capital, specialises in transforming healthcare data into insights. She joined the team on 8 April.

At Pinsent Masons, de Haas had been in the international firm’s patent team since March 2022. Here, she predominantly worked in the risk advisory services group, as well as on cases relating to healthcare and life sciences. Prior to this, she worked for one year as an IP associate at the Amsterdam office of Taylor Wessing. De Haas joined Pinsent Masons along with former Taylor Wessing partner Judith Krens and another associate in early 2022.

Apixaban involvement

During her time at Pinsent Masons, de Haas was part of the team around Krens who represented generic drug company Teva alongside multiple defendants in the high-profile case against Bristol-Myers Squibb regarding apixaban. Here, in August 2023, the Court of Appeal in The Hague found that Sandoz, Stada and Teva could not sell their generic versions of the blood thinner in the Netherlands.

At LOGEX, de Haas will support the business alongside the general counsel, acting as the first point of contact concerning issues such as contract negotiations. She will also be the port of call regarding internal business strategy. Speaking to JUVE Patent, Maud de Haas says, “I’ve had a great couple of years in private practice, in which I have learned a lot. In my work as a lawyer, one of the main topics I enjoyed was discussing and thinking about the strategy of a case: what is the best way to move forward? What will result in the best outcome for our client?”

She continues, “When I joined LOGEX, I was pleased to learn that I could use my experience in the life sciences sector with my ambition to have a more strategy-focused role. The legal counsel position at Logex has presented me with the perfect combination.”

In the Dutch market

However, since Judith Krens and the two-strong associate team joined in 2022, Pinsent Masons has suffered some losses in Amsterdam. Partner András Kupecz left to become a full-time legally qualified judge at the Unified Patent Court, and regulatory partner Machteld Hiemstra returned to her previous firm, Simmons & Simmons.

Recently, senior associate Stephanie de Beer also left for the patent team of Dutch full-service firm, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek. She has expertise in life sciences patents and a PhD in chemistry. However, at the beginning of 2023, Pinsent Masons also hired Arjan Reijns as a legal director, as well as another associate, Maud van Imhoff.
