From the get-go, Preu Bohlig has represented its regular clients at the UPC. The lawyers of this IP boutique are involved in multiple cases, covering a broad technical spectrum from water dispensers, through steel strip plants, to saw wires. The firm’s ability to attract a continuous stream of new work from midsized tech companies often stems from its historically robust relationships with numerous patent attorney firms. The team is also well-established in telecommunications, handling proceedings for Shanghai Sunmi Technology against Nokia and defending Huawei against a claim from Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

The spin-off of nine IP lawyers at the beginning of 2025, who established an independent practice under the Bonabry brand, brought the loss of crucial pharma expertise that Preu Bohlig must now rebuild. Former Hamburg partner Daniel Hoppe had established a strong foundation among generic drug manufacturers in recent years and took this expertise with him. It also meant the loss of the firm’s only office outside Germany, due to the Paris team joining the new outfit.

However, Preu Bohlig’s existing regulatory competence in pharma and medical device law provides a strong network within the life sciences industry. To rebuild its position, the firm can strategically leverage these connections to attract clients from this sector for UPC proceedings.
