Linklaters – UPC 2026

JUVE Comment

The patent litigation practice of this international full-service firm has solidified its position at the UPC, building on its strong focus on electronics disputes. The extensive work for long-standing client Seoul Semiconductor and its subsidiary Seoul Viosys remains a cornerstone, with the team handling a multitude of UPC proceedings concerning LED technology against various competitors. The infringement battles against Amazon and expert Klein/expert e-Commerce have meanwhile come to an end.

Linklaters’ international patent team benefits from well-established internal collaboration between offices. The strong Frankfurt-Paris relationship is demonstrated through joint work for Seoul Viosys, whilst a Frankfurt-London team handles Playtech’s dispute over online gaming technology. This showcases the firm’s ability to deploy seamless cross-border teams across its European offices. For the majority of UPC cases, the firm maintains collaborative relationships with external patent attorney firms, including Schneiders & Behrendt and Venner Shipley.

Linklaters continues to diversify its UPC practice beyond electronics into other technical sectors. The firm has secured new instructions from Bostik in chemical-related disputes, whilst maintaining its work for ALD Vacuum in metallurgy and GXD-Bio Corporation in biotech. Through a substantial portfolio of active cases, the team has established a significant presence at the European court. The practice appears well-positioned to attract additional UPC disputes, leveraging both its strong connections with Asian companies, particularly in Korea, and the London office’s long-standing relationships with pharmaceutical clients.
