Hogan Lovells – UK 2025
Rankings
JUVE Comment
Hogan Lovells’ UK team continues to close the gap with the City’s market leaders. A highlight is defending Amazon against Nokia and Alcatel Lucent’s claims concerning three implementation patents in the UK. The team brings extensive SEP dispute experience to these proceedings. This work also demonstrates the team’s strength in international litigation, with parallel proceedings at the UPC and in the US, India, and Brazil.
The team’s expertise in SEP and FRAND proceedings was further evidenced by its work for Oppo; it recently concluded two global disputes with Nokia and Phillips through settlements.
Under leading partner Stephen Bennett, the team maintains an impressive track record in complex life sciences litigation. One client praises, “Of all the law firms we work with, Hogan Lovells’ international cooperation stands out for its seamless execution.” A highlight in this sector is representing Bristol-Myers Squibb against generic drug competitors.
Beyond digital entertainment and life sciences, Hogan Lovells secured an interesting economic and legal decision in a pan-European case for Astronics regarding a rarely litigated form of monetary compensation. This work exemplifies the team’s close European cooperation, with parallel proceedings ongoing in Germany and France.
European set-up
The firm boasts a truly cross-border litigation team. Its practices across Amsterdam, London, Düsseldorf and Munich operate cohesively, as evidenced by its international presence in significant pharmaceutical, mobile communications and electronics cases. The team now applies this well-established cooperation model to UPC proceedings running alongside national litigation, demonstrated by its work for Amazon regarding video coding. Another strong example is the representation of Supponor.
Hogan Lovells is well positioned to maintain and expand its role in pan-European and UPC proceedings. Its extensive experience in FRAND litigation across UK and UPC jurisdictions, combined with its strong network of life sciences clients, provides a solid foundation for future growth.
Strengths
Strong in pharmaceutical, medical devices and telecommunications disputes for industrial clients. Coordination of cross-border litigation for both a European and global client base.
