JUVE Patent

Preu Bohlig & Partner – Germany 2026

JUVE Comment

Preu Bohlig’s patent team has an excellent market image across Germany thanks to its deep roots in litigation for SME clients. Technology-driven medium-sized companies across a broad range of technologies regularly entrust the team with their high-stakes cases, with those involving mechanics and electronics standing out. In addition, the firm’s strong links with various German patent firms ensure a steady stream of instructions.

Beyond its plethora of SME clients, such as kitchen equipment manufacturer Bora, the firm is representing international companies, including Tesla, in a case concerning windscreen wipers. Preu Bohlig also maintains a good presence in SEP and FRAND cases. Recently, various partners represented Sunmi Technologies regarding SEPs for card readers in both national courts and at the UPC. Such cases demonstrate the firm’s ability to support core clients across both national and UPC proceedings. The team also continued to be active for major technology clients such as Huawei, successfully defending the company against WaveTouch in a case concerning fingerprint sensors. However, competitors such as Clifford Chance, Bird & Bird, Bardehle Pagenberg, and more recently Arnold Ruess, have taken up the bulk of high-profile litigation work for the Chinese company in recent years.

Furthermore, Preu Bohlig is rebuilding its pharmaceutical practice, which had suffered a blow when Daniel Hoppe and his team spun off, taking his expertise in representing generics manufacturers with him. A team led by Peter von Czettritz, an expert on pharma regulatory matters, achieved a victory for Aristo Pharma against Takeda before the Federal Patent Court in a nullity action concerning an SPC. Preu Bohlig is also representing the healthcare product provider Fagron in extensive patent infringement proceedings.

In addition to the work at national courts, the firm continues to be active at the UPC

for its core client base of medium-sized technology companies as well as international players. For example, it represented Sunmi Technologies in parallel national and UPC proceedings. For NUC Electronics a team around Christian Kau successfully overturned a first-instance infringement ruling in a dispute with Hurom over juice extractors.

With the departure of Matthias Hülsewig, another partner has left the firm. At the same time, Preu Bohlig is rebuilding the team with a counsel from Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer in Düsseldorf and another from Maucher Jenkins in Munich.
