Powell Gilbert – Germany 2026
Rankings
JUVE Comment
The London-based IP litigation boutique made a striking entry into the German patent litigation market in 2025. Having already established a strong presence in UPC proceedings, Powell Gilbert has now achieved similar success in Germany by recruiting an experienced Düsseldorf team led by former Vossius partner Andreas Kramer. The team integrated swiftly and has since expanded to include two associates and patent attorneys. The firm is thus consistently implementing its emerging hybrid approach across the entire organisation.
A key factor in the firm’s rapid success before national courts is the German team’s extensive experience in SEP and FRAND cases, including work for Oppo. Further instructions have followed from Roku, Adobe, and Transsion. The firm has quickly combined this with the expertise of its UK practice, bringing concentrated firepower to bear for clients such as Walt Disney. New instructions are also emerging outside the SEP sector, including for Ocado regarding warehouse automation technology. Teams on both sides of the English Channel now work together in an integrated manner on numerous SEP cases on the implementer side.
If Powell Gilbert is to challenge market leaders such as Bardehle Pagenberg or Hoyng ROKH Monegier not only at the UPC but also in the German litigation market, it will need to strengthen its life sciences litigation team – for example, by recruiting a high-calibre lateral hire. The UK team enjoys an outstanding reputation and maintains excellent relationships with companies such as BioNTech, Biogen, and Edwards Lifesciences in this segment.
