JUVE Comment
The litigation practice at this Munich-based boutique has made significant progress over the past year. Practice head Hosea Haag is highly regarded for his extensive litigation for NPEs, primarily in mobile communications. In this field, his team has now advanced its UPC work by representing new client Nixu/SIM IP against Infoblox. He has also continued to develop the firm’s work with mid-sized clients, representing Yunex, a provider of intelligent traffic management systems, against Swarco.
The main obstacle to developing the patent litigation practice in recent years was the slow team build-up, which faced several setbacks. The firm has now moved beyond this with the arrival of the team led by Stefan Eck. Eck brings extensive patent litigation experience, an excellent reputation and long-standing, loyal clients such as mechanical engineering firm Bauer and bicycle components manufacturer SRAM. One client praises his “extremely successful, excellent advice”. With its stronger headcount – which includes several up-and-coming lawyers building their reputations – Ampersand now offers a viable alternative for both mid-sized clients and NPEs in complex UPC proceedings, moving away from the niche of very small, single-partner-focused firms.
