Lionel MARTIN joined August Debouzy patent litigation team in 2014. His previous appointment in the patent law profession was already a mixed practice of a renowned French IP boutique composed of both patent attorneys and attorneys-at-law being able to gather experience in prosecution as well as in litigation.

Fully qualified as a French patent attorney, European patent attorney (EPA) and lawyer in private law, he successfully passed the bar exam litigating patent cases directly before the French judicial court.

Lionel hails from a scientific background as a mechanical engineer from the tier 1 “Ecole des Ponts ParisTech”.

Together with Grégoire Desrousseaux and François Pochart, he manages a team of lawyers and patent attorneys, a large number of whom have dual legal and technical qualifications

Himself with his dual scientific and legal background, being both qualified as EPA and attorney-at-law, and with its more than 15 years of experience in patent, he handles patent litigation matters, before French Courts and the EPO (in French and English). He represents his clients at opposition proceedings before the EPO, as well as for the filing and prosecution of patent applications. The vast majority of his cases are mixed patent litigation cases pending both before the EPO and before the French Courts with a strong interplay. His scientific education steered him to deal with cases in telecommunication (FRAND licensing induced litigation), energy, medical devices and automotive involving almost systematically large corporations in these fields implying for him to deal with abroad clients.

Lionel led numerous trainings performed before clients and prospects, among which:

• open-to-the-public trainings given in the form of the annual “Ateliers du brevet”
• open-to-the-public series of trainings specifically dedicated to UPC in the form of the “Matinales JUB”
• various client specially designed trainings dedicated to UPC

Lionel is also sharing his expertise towards the next generation when performing academic trainings to top tier graduating schools should it be engineering schools (Ponts Paristech; CentraleSupélec) or lawyer schools (Paris-Saclay University: Master 2 LEAD; Strasbourg University: CEIPI).
