With the Unified Patent Court just days away from its first anniversary, JUVE Patent has rounded up the top ten most-read articles concerning the pan-European court published on the site since 1 June 2023.
Clearly, the patent community’s interest in the new “super court”, as one patent litigator recently called it, has been high. This is evidenced by our article UPC Administrative Committee names final three judges, which we published on the day the judges officially began their work. However, readers were not merely interested in the new judges, but also their initial decisions.
Our report on the first important decision of the Court of Appeal, Court of Appeal judges pave way back to European market for NanoString, was the most-read article since the court’s launch. Our exclusive report on the associated oral hearing between 10X Genomics and NanoString was also highly popular. JUVE Patent personally attended the historic hearing, which took place in December 2023 in thick fog on Luxembourg’s Kirchberg.
Our reports on new cases at the UPC and the most active law firms also regularly attracted the interest of our readers. The mega-battle between Panasonic, Xiaomi and Oppo made it into our top ten reports twice.
However, it is not only the nitty gritty of new proceedings that pique our readers’ interest, but also which advisors have managed to score points with their clients. Such information is important for representatives active at the UPC so they can assess their own business environment. This is why our January opinion, Patent litigation firms must prepare for difficult times, was popular. We will revisit this topic next year when the UPC and the national patent courts announce their case numbers for 2024.
