At the turn of the year, the IP team split off from Aramis and joined the law firm Jeantet. The Paris-based full-service law firm is thus supplementing its advice to the IT sector with the entire spectrum of trademark and patent law.

The eight-strong IP team led by Benjamin May moved to Jeantet as of 1 January 2025. May was part of Aramis‘ founding team almost 20 years ago. He is known for patent litigation across a broad technical spectrum ranging from software through pharma to medical devices. Of the eight fee earners, four focus on patent matters.

International companies such as Zentiva and Allergan entrust the IP practice with the French components of their international cases. For example, the team represented the software company Enyx in a dispute over a software solution for processing financial market data against a lawsuit brought by competitor Novasparks.
Additionally, the team recently advised Fresenius Medical Care in a high-stakes lawsuit against Nipro Medical. The latter proceedings are running in Belgium and Germany simultaneously, conducted in part by international firms.
The team around May has many years of experience in pan-European litigation. In the dispute between Koninklijke Douwe Egberts and Belmoca concerning coffee capsules the team defended Belmoca alongside Stibbe (for Belgium), Brinkhof (for the Netherlands) and Gevers (for the EPO). Litigation for Zentiva in the Mylan/Viatris suit against Eli Lilly concerning pemetrexed highlights how the team often plays a role in major pan-European cases.
Its international focus makes the IP team a good fit for Jeantet. It will work closely with IT partner Frédéric Sardain, who will lead the IP/IT practice together with Benjamin May.
While Sardain has also litigated in some patent infringement cases and provided transactional IP advice in the past, Jeantet has not had a dedicated IP team or market visibility for patent litigation. The traditional French law firm has a strong focus on M&A and banking/finance. It therefore has a particularly firm footing in the financial sector.
It also maintains close contacts with German energy and industrial companies through its German desk and managing partner Karl Hepp de Sevelinges. Jeantet’s new IP expertise could be of interest to these clients, not least given the opportunities offered by the UPC.
