EIP – UPC 2026
Rankings
JUVE Comment
After a modest first year at the UPC, this international mixed IP boutique is now leveraging its renowned strengths in the mobile communications sector. The firm has recently gained visibility in two SEP/telecoms disputes, with its established Düsseldorf team representing plaintiff MediaTek in a series of lawsuits against Huawei (now settled). It is also active for Asus in cases against Oppo, Realme and Xiaomi, working in conjunction with German firm Arnold Ruess.
For telecommunications cases, the trans-European firm benefits from its established Düsseldorf team. Long before UK competitors Powell Gilbert and Carpmaels & Ransford integrated German lawyers, EIP had established a lawyer team in Düsseldorf. However, the German practice faced a setback with the departure of Florian Schmidt-Bogatzky in early 2025. His exit also meant the loss of the client relationship with Broadcom, one of EIP’s first UPC clients.
The strong UK team maintains involvement in almost all UPC proceedings through its patent attorneys, including representing Labrador Diagnostics. Medtech forms the second pillar of EIP’s current UPC activities, exemplified by its representation of Curio Bioscience concerning spatial detection technology alongside Carpmaels. Other mixed firms such as Hoffmann Eitle and Meissner Bolte have demonstrated notably broader technical capabilities. However, EIP’s patent attorney practice offers potential for expansion into other sectors, including electronics and pharmaceuticals. The firm’s Stockholm office, recently bolstered by the addition of a Finnish patent attorney, provides a presence near the Scandinavian UPC division. While this has not yet translated into concrete cases, the London-Düsseldorf axis is helping EIP establish a solid presence at the UPC.
