Jones Day – France 2022
Rankings
JUVE Comment
The French team of this US firm is well positioned in the market thanks to its experience in international litigation, especially relating to SPCs. The firm boasts strong roots in the life sciences and pharma sector, including Daiichi Sankyo. Jones Day can also point to much activity for medical product manufacturers, for example defending Schwind against Carl Zeiss over laser eye surgery.
The team has a broad technical setup overall. The more extensive proceedings of late have included litigation for Lufthansa against Astronics, Panasonic and Thales Avionics over aeroplane seats.
The team also boasts specialist expertise in plant protection law. Alongside the patent litigation practice led by Thomas Bouvet, the Paris team is broadly positioned and has an excellent name in trademarks.
Strengths
Integrated patent litigation in Europe and the US. Litigation concerning SPCs and plant protection law.
European set-up
Jones Day is a globally integrated firm with a strong IP practice. Clients from a wide spectrum of technical fields, such as Coloplast or Lufthansa, rely on the patent team completely for their international cases. The French team has worked particularly closely with the strongly positioned US team for many years. The Paris office also works closely with the well-positioned patent attorney team in Germany – partly because it has no patent attorneys itself. The UPC offers much potential, and this well-rehearsed cooperation could be particularly advantageous for US clients. Cooperation with the well-positioned London patent team is also firmly established.
