Bryce Matthewson is a Partner at Powell Gilbert (www.powellgilbert.com), a specialist European IP firm.

Bryce is a UK Solicitor, Irish Solicitor, UPC representative and qualified South African Patent Attorney. He is an experienced patent litigator before the UK courts, having represented clients in the pharma, biotech, FMCG, and medical devices sectors. In addition, Bryce has been involved in a large number of the early cases before the UPC, in relation to both infringement and revocation actions across various divisions and has argued some of the first cases before the UPC Court of Appeal.

Bryce has additionally co-ordinated numerous multi-jurisdictional matters across various European jurisdictions, including EPO opposition proceedings, on behalf of various life sciences clients. Bryce also obtained experience as a patent litigator in South Africa and other African countries before joining Powell Gilbert.

Bryce has a technical background in chemistry and has been involved in a broad range of pharmaceutical and medical devices cases since joining Powell Gilbert. In particular, he has taken on the role of co-ordinating counsel for a broad range of pan-European patent litigation matters involving a range of technologies. He has notably acted for Biogen and Edwards Lifesciences in this role, as well as representing those clients in UK Court proceedings.

Prior to undertaking his legal studies, Bryce obtained a degree in Chemistry and Applied Chemistry and qualified as a Patent Attorney which provides him with a solid technical foundation when advising clients operating in the life sciences sector.
