Alex Wilson is a UK Solicitor Advocate, Irish Solicitor and UPC Representative and a founding partner of Powell Gilbert. He guides clients from a wide range of industries on patent enforcement and defensive strategies in national and UPC courts across Europe as well other major markets.
His scientific background has put him in a good position to handle highly technical and standards related patent cases. He has acted in matters relating to technologies as diverse as pharmaceuticals, semi-conductors, graphics processing, medical devices, biotechnology, explosives, oil and gas, paints and mobile phones.
He has a very active UPC practice for international clients across a range of UPC courts Alex supports clients in relation to SEP licensing negotiations including providing strategic and pre-litigation advice. He has an active arbitration and mediation practice.
Alex’s fluency in French and German allowed him to spend periods working in leading law firms in Paris and Düsseldorf as well as the EPO. He is co-editor of an international commentary: Unified Patent Court Procedure (Beck/Hart 2025). Alex is a Board member and chairs the European Patent Lawyers’ Association (EPLAW) Japan and Korea Outreach and ADR committees.
