JUVE Patent's Germany ranking 2023 analyses how well Germany's patent teams have coped with the challenges of the past year. Over 2023, while national cases ran at a slightly lower level than in previous years, the real driver of change in patent practices was the launch of the Unified Patent Court. JUVE Patent journalist Konstanze Richter presents the major changes in the latest ranking video.

In JUVE Patent’s Germany Ranking 2023, Konstanze Richter present the latest developments in the German patent market.
Over the past twelve months, partner changes, strategic realignments and collaborations with other European law firms changed the line-up of patent practices in Germany. In doing so, law firms prepared for the launch of the UPC in June this year.
The number of new lawsuits filed in German patent infringement courts declined by about 6% in 2022. On the eve of the UPC launch, companies were even more reluctant to file new lawsuits. Movements and realignments, on the other hand, characterised the current year.
Clifford Chance, for example, entered the patent litigation business. In Germany, the firm hired a team from Hoyng ROKH Monegier led by Tobias Hessel.
Already a market leader, the Bardehle Pagenberg team began 2023 with a bang. The Munich-based firm opened an office at UPC’s third German location in Hamburg and recruited three partners around Tobias Wuttke. These, as well as numerous other movements and realignments, are analysed in the JUVE Patent Germany ranking 2023.
