The transformation process at Simmons & Simmons is entering a new stage. The firm is losing another partner. The London patent litigation team now consists of only nine lawyers around partner Scott Parker.

Experienced patent litigation partner Priya Nagpal is moving to UK competitor Wiggin after nine years at Simmons & Simmons. Wiggin is a full-service law firm with offices in London, Brussels and Cheltenham. The firm specialises in media, tech and IP advice and litigation. It concentrates on patent cases in the UK and has no UPC representatives.

At Wiggin, Nagpal joins 7 other partners in IP and two of them specialist in patents. The team has a strong foothold in copyright — a field in which she is also heavily involved. Her regular clients in patent litigation include medical device manufacturers Boston Scientific and SiBionics. Nagpal already worked for Boston Scientific during her time at Olswang. The 47-year-old began her career there after initially completing the traditional training as a barrister at 8 New Square.

Shrinking practice

The Gibraltar-born lawyer wants to drive forward the expansion of the IP department at Wiggin. Her arrival also brings the number of women in the team on a par with the men.

For Simmons & Simmons, the departure is part of a period of transformation in which the London patent litigation team has gradually shrunk. Partner Andrew Hutchinson has already left the firm and Michael Burdon is stepping back for age reasons, meaning that Scott Parker is currently the only remaining patent litigation partner in London. There have also been some departures in other countries, but also some additions, such as Abdelaziz Khatab in Paris.
