AI company Orbem hires new head of IP from Bardehle Pagenberg

In January, Munich-based tech company Orbem appointed a new head of intellectual property.

Humphrey Morhenn was formerly a counsel at German IP firm Bardehle Pagenberg. The German and European patent attorney began his career at the firm as a patent engineer and technology expert in 2013. He spent just over eleven years there, becoming counsel in 2023.

Morhenn’s work included patent litigation at the German courts for prominent clients such as Microsoft and Xiaomi, as well as Intellectual Ventures in the dispute with Deutsche Telekom. He was also active for TomTom as co-litigant in the connected cars battles Daimler vs Nokia and Conversant. He also conducted prosecution work before the EPO in telecommunications, mechanics, robotics and AI amongst other things, e.g. for Qualcomm.

Founded in 2019, Orbem is active in the field of AI-powered imaging. Morhenn told JUVE Patent, “I am inspired by the unique dynamics of Orbem – agile, visionary and growth-oriented. Orbem is developing groundbreaking technologies that combine AI and imaging techniques with the potential to fundamentally change entire industries. I am excited to work with an ambitious team towards a sustainable and healthy future.” In his new position Morhenn will oversee the development of a global IP strategy with the aim of building a strong IP portfolio for targeted use in growth, cooperation and licensing. Morhenn is also a registered UPC representative.
