Taylor Wessing – UPC 2025

JUVE Comment

This international law firm, whose team consists only of lawyers, has got off to an ideal start at the UPC. Many different clients are entrusting the team with extensive and complex UPC actions, and medium-sized companies also feel that their proceedings are in good hands with Taylor Wessing. For example, the team has the lead in the very extensive series of lawsuits for Abbott Laboratories over glucose-monitoring technology. The work is a prime example of the good cooperation between the teams in different jurisdictions, as the case involves lawyers from the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Belgium, and Austria.

It is this close, coordinated cooperation in international teams that characterises Taylor Wessing’s strategy. It is noteworthy that not only are several of the German partners from different generations present in cases, but that the partner ranks in other countries also shine. This shows that the investment in the Vienna office, for which Taylor Wessing won the experienced litigator Thomas Adocker, has paid off. He not only led the first proceedings at the local division Vienna for Cup&Cino but is also involved in numerous other major proceedings and is in the lead in other cases.

Taylor Wessing also manages to use previously less-frequented UPC locations for its clients. For example, the Dutch partner Wim Maas is leading an extensive series of litigation proceedings for Ericsson together with lawyers from the Netherlands, UK, Austria, and Germany at the local division in Milan. In these lawsuits, the firm also tested the Lisbon local division with a PI procedure and worked with the local law firm Abreu Advogados. Only a few competitors, such as Powell Gilbert, are as present at so many different UPC locations as Taylor Wessing. With this breadth, the large international team is ideally positioned to help clients make even greater use of the UPC in the coming years. Taylor Wessing is one of the law firms conducting proceedings not only in fields such as medtech, with clients such as Tandem Diabetes Care, and in pharma with clients such as Zentiva, but also in telecommunications and electronics with clients such as Verifone and Hanshow, as well as in numerous other technological fields.
