The patent attorneys at this German IP litigation boutique enjoy an outstanding reputation for their litigation in complex mobile communications proceedings, including EPO oppositions. The team led by Karl-Ulrich Braun-Dullaeus and Friedrich Emmerling is certainly at the top of the market in this clearly defined specialty, particularly when it comes to SEPs. The patent practice also maintains a small but stable prosecution practice but is strategically focused on litigation, representing clients in EPO oppositions such as Conradi + Kaiser, Deutsche Telekom, Hochland, Honsel und Smart Battery Solutions.

European set-up

Braun-Dullaeus Pannen Emmerling is representing Huawei in a UPC lawsuit against Netgear over wi-fi 6 technology. The firm had previously filed a national lawsuit in the same case.

Its clients initially observed the UPC with caution. But the core clients are increasingly open to strategies in which the UPC plays a role. For these proceedings, the team brings a wealth of experience in telecommunications and cooperates with law firms that do not have their own patent attorney teams, such as Freshfields and Clifford Chance.

The firm must compete with numerous mixed teams, but that is nothing new for Braun-Dullaeus Pannen Emmerling. For example, it is working with mixed law firm Bird & Bird for Huawei in a lawsuit against Amazon.
