JUVE Patent

Betten & Resch – Germany 2024

JUVE Comment

This IP firm has recognised expertise in electronics patents, concerning for example computer technology, AI and semiconductors, as well as medical devices. Its medium-sized filing practice assists international clients, such as Google with electronics patents and Widex with hearing aids. The firm is also highly active for Widex in EPO oppositions.

The strength of the patent attorneys’ litigation practice also lies in these technical fields and the team is involved in some extensive cases. For example, it is defending REC against Hanwha Q-Cells in EPO opposition and infringement claims over solar-cell technology. The comprehensive litigation for Abbott against Dexcom over glucose-monitoring patents remains a highlight. The team works with the lawyers from Taylor Wessing here.

European set-up

The joint team is not only representing Abbott at the national courts but also in parallel at the UPC. The case demonstrates the clients’ confidence in the patent attorneys’s technical excellence and litigation experience.

These strengths, and their good ties to the lawyers at Taylor Wessing – who are excellently positioned for UPC cases – stand the patent attorneys in good stead for regular UPC litigation. Medical technology companies are already making active use of the UPC, and electronics cases are now picking up.

Strengths

Litigation regarding electronics and medical technology patents. Prosecution also regarding digital communication and computer technology.
