Dr. Joel Nägerl studied physics and mathematics at the University of Göttingen and physics at the University of California, San Diego. He graduated in physics and received his PhD in natural sciences working in the field of semiconductor optics. During his studies at the university, Dr. Nägerl received a scholarship inter alia from the “Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes” (German National Foundation, sponsoring the highly gifted).
In his career as patent attorney he worked in the firms Bardehle (Düsseldorf) and KNH (in Düsseldorf and Munich) before he became partner at Zimmermann & Partner (Munich). Dr. Nägerl specializes in the areas electrical engineering, optics, telecommunication and semiconductor technology. His main practice area is patent litigation, where he advises and represents leading companies in numerous, high profile, international disputes before the proper authorities handling the nullity and infringement proceedings.
Due to his profound technical expertise and his keen legal sense, Dr. Nägerl services are in great demand as counsel for developing technical attack and defense strategies for litigation proceedings both in Germany and in foreign jurisdictions. Dr. Nägerl also serves as appointed Court Expert for two Senates at the Appeal Court Düsseldorf. He is coauthor of the book “Patent Law – A handbook” (C.H.Beck · Hart · Nomos).
