Prüfer & Partner – Germany 2016

JUVE Comment
A midsized, respected patent attorney firm which clearly has its sights set on litigation work for the new European patent system. With this in mind, the firm added five experienced patent attorneys from other firms or industrial companies to its headcount. The most prominent new hire was Emmerling, who came from Betten & Resch bringing crucial expertise in mobile communications and Huawei as a high-profile litigation client. Since then, the practice, which was not esp. visible in mobile communications before, has been active for the Chinese company in some of today’s largest NPE suits against Unwired Planet. In keeping with this, P&P has been honing a mixed litigation approach for some time, incl. establishing its own team of lawyers. The addition of its first lawyer to the partnership was consistent, but has yet to pay off in stronger market visibility. This would require a greater number of major proceedings.
