de Marcellus & Disser – France 2021
Rankings
JUVE Comment
This well-positioned IP boutique led by litigator Emmanuel de Marcellus conducts patent infringement proceedings in a wide array of technical fields. Both SMEs and the French branches of international companies and start-ups frequently call on the small outfit. The sheer number of proceedings and the firm’s broad sector expertise thus lend it a strong market visibility. But its small size is also limiting. The firm has not appeared in the recent high-profile pharma and telecoms battles. In addition to litigation, life sciences clients frequently entrust the firm with IP transactions, especially in relation to licensing agreements.
European strategy
The small boutique has strong ties to French clients and the local branches of international companies. While this results in a presence in pan-European proceedings, the firm does not push this through closer cooperation with firms in other countries. At the UPC it could find itself wooed by large firms that are not yet represented or are too weakly positioned in Paris. So far, however, the team does not have any well-polished connections to firms in other European countries it can draw on.
