Amar Goussu Staub – France 2021

JUVE Comment

This well-positioned IP boutique has made a name for itself through high-profile litigation work for notable telecommunications companies. Its good reputation stems from high-profile work for renowned regular clients like LG, Ericsson and ETSI. Name partner Cyrille Amar frequently litigates for these companies in SEP proceedings, for instance advising ETSI as co-defendant in the battle between Philips and TCL. The standardisation body is currently entrusting him with a similar dispute between Philips and Xiaomi. Such cases give the IP boutique a powerful, even international, market presence unusual for its size. US company Sonos, for example, now counts on Amar in the dispute against Google and its subsidiary Nest over technology for smart speakers.

The team also advises companies from a variety of industries on mechanics patents. Among them is French manufacturer of artificial joints C2F against Taiwanese competitor United Orthopedic in the dispute over prosthetic knees. However, the firm has so far been unable to establish a client base in the pharma industry.

Litigation regarding mobile communication patents

European strategy

The IP boutique does not have any close connections to firms in other countries. Especially in view of pan-European mobile phone proceedings, establishing a network of cooperation firms could further advance the IP boutique.
