Bardehle Pagenberg – France 2020
The patent litigation team around Julien Fréneaux is well positioned in France and best known for its vast experience litigating for NPEs. The team is living up to this impression this year, with litigation for Intellectual Ventures in the suit against the French telecom giants, including Bouygues Telecom, SFR, Orange and numerous suppliers. This is currently the most extensive battle over telecommunications patents in Paris and a typical example of cooperation with the German team. The team also litigated for NPE IPCom in proceedings against Lenovo, which saw a high-profile ruling on an anti-anti-suit injunction. This is one of the French practice’s few independent, prestigious instructions not stemming from the German practice. The majority of work is referred from Germany. But there is further potential to be tapped here within the mixed firm, as by no means have all of the German team’s showcase clients been transferred to the Paris office. In prosecution, on the other hand, the team mainly works for midsized and small French companies with mechanics or telecoms patent portfolios.
Experienced in pan-European patent litigation for NPEs.
Bardehle is on the way to becoming a top European firm. It has a mixed litigation approach, internationally oriented lawyers and offices at the key UPC venues in Düsseldorf, Munich and Paris and a small Italian office in Verona. The French practice cooperates little with the latter office. The firm does not have an office in London. Due to the uncertainty surrounding the UPC, it would not make sense for there seems to be no plans to boost its presence in London at the current time. If the court launches without the UK, however, an office in Amsterdam would be worth considering due to the firm’s focus on mobile communications.
