JUVE Patent

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer – Austria 2022

JUVE Comment

The IP team at this international full-service firm enjoys a strong market image for trademarks and unfair competition. All-round advice on the legal issues surrounding digitalisation, especially in copyright law, is the driver of the practice’s global activity. While litigation features heavily in trademarks work, for example for Giesswein, advice on licences, IP contracts and transactions is also among the practice’s mainstays.

The firm skilfully brings its international network into play, as shown in advice to VW on a global collaboration with Ford involving autonomous driving and in patents advice to a private client group on R&D contracts, licences and setting up a research institute. In these and numerous other cases, the Vienna IP team works closely with its Düsseldorf counterpart, also in trademark administration. However, there is further potential for cooperation in patent infringement cases. Its German team, among others, is strongly positioned, but the Vienna lawyers are less visible and cede the field to national firms.
