Abdelaziz Khatab has been practicing patent law, first as a French and European patent attorney and then as an attorney-at-law. He holds the Patent Litigation in Europe certificate from the Strasbourg University dedicated to pan-European patent litigation and to the rules of the upcoming Unified Patent Court.

Abdelaziz is both legally and technically qualified.

He began working in patent law in the industrial property service of a leading automotive supplier. He then worked for two leading industrial property law firms before joining August Debouzy.  Abdelaziz has worked with the most highly profiled patent professionals in France and Europe. He has thus acquired a solid experience in all strategic issues relating to filing, managing and litigating patents.

Abdelaziz experienced first-hand the impact of patent law issues on the industrial development of a major automotive supplier. Since then, he always kept his client’s business development in mind when assisting and counseling his clients.

As a French and European patent attorney, Abdelaziz assisted large national and international corporations in their industrial property strategies. He also assisted tier-one law firms in Europe and France in leading patent litigation. His work included drafting and prosecuting patent applications (up to boards of appeal before the EPO), opposing and defending patents before the opposition divisions and boards of appeal of the EPO, and also assisting law firms in leading patent trials. Abdelaziz also acted as an expert to bailiffs during seizures (saisie-contrefaçons).

Following these successful collaborations with French and European patent attorneys firms, Abdelaziz continued practicing patent law as an attorney-at-law.

Abdelaziz now works on high stakes complex cases for large companies both before the European Patent Office (in French and English) and the French courts. He has significant experience in negotiations and litigation involving non-practicing entities.

Abdelaziz acquired extensive experience, especially in the field of high technologies. He notably advised large corporations in prosecuting, managing and licensing standard essential patents. He also assisted them in their licensing programs (FRAND licenses more specifically).

Abdelaziz provided assistance to a wide range of companies, from large corporations to start-ups together with research institutes and universities. He developed an acute awareness of the issues relating to inventions ownership (inventions by employees, co-development agreements etc.).

While working for leading patent law firms dealing with high stake cases, Abdelaziz acquired an in-depth knowledge of patent law, from patent prosecution to patent litigation. Abdelaziz dealt with complex cases involving both patent offices and trial courts.

He can work in various technical fields such as electronics, computer science, telecommunications, data management systems, graphical interfaces, data processing, cryptography, microelectronics, nanotechnologies, electrical engineering, power systems, Physics/mechanics.

In addition to his expertise in computer-implemented inventions, Abdelaziz intervenes regularly in the fields of medical devices, home appliances and automotive industry.
